Artist Statement
From the beginning, glass has been a special metaphor connecting me with the visible and invisible forces of nature.
What fascinates me is the building and layering of colour, free spaces and bubble formations. Modest in their entrapment, these bubbles are like the fly in the amber. They swirl and trail throughout an eternity to later reveal where the molten journey begins and ends as a solid.
With the labor of carving waxes and building plaster moulds, there is much preparation and ritual. This sculpture contains and gives many transformations to one original inspiration. Moments of meditation, passion, and eventful recognition lend shape to the hours, days and weeks of process, love and creation.
The object of art is to give life a shape ~ Jean Anouilh
